A message from Marcus
More than 11 years ago the MLTC managed to acquire its own indoor club by placing a dome over the four tennis courts at Nagog Woods, a.k.a. MLTC West. Nine months later we were then able to secure a 10-year lease on what is currently MLTC East on Granite Road. Last year we negotiated a one-year extension on the property that will bring us to July 1, 2025.
Over those 11 years we cleaned up East and improved the appearance of the facility with new carpet, paint, repairs, etc., however a decade takes a toll on an already-aged environment. The hope was to eventually purchase East so that any major capital improvements could be done to a property we owned. If that was not an option, then the next best thing would be to come to an agreement with the landlord. Our thinking was if we improve the property then it would seem logical that there should be some sort of reduction in rent. Instead the offer was a 30% increase in rent and we would also be responsible for any upgrades to the building and the courts.
We did not reach this point in our evolution by making poor financial choices which is why we will not be renewing the lease. Instead we will be building an entirely new facility! You read it right. The MLTC will be erecting a new, 16-court operation that will include two sets of four domed courts and another two sets of four outdoor, lighted courts. We are in the early stages of this project, but the contractors are all lined up and we expect to have enough of it completed such that we can open by the end of the summer. Amazingly, the property is even closer to MLTC West than East is now. The best part is that it will be owned and controlled solely by us.
Although we have managed to hold the current club together with as many band-aids as possible, for years it has not reflected an appearance that is up to our standard. Whether it was the warping of the outdoor courts, a new leak in the roof, lighting issues, etc., those problems will soon be a thing of the past. The issues that were not visible have been even more difficult to deal with, but we greatly appreciate your patience with all of it.
Undoubtedly members will have many questions and more details will be forthcoming as we move into the New Year, but for now know that we will be moving into an even bigger and better home for the future and we’re excited to share this with all of you.

Unfortunately this update was delayed by a few weeks in order to wait for finalized engineering drawings that could be shared with the public. You can now get a look at what will be built in just a matter of months from now! See our photo journey above.
The final plan has 6 contiguous tennis courts along with 8 indoor pickleball courts. Since we will be within a short walk of our West location, we will be using the West courts for both instruction as well as for member bookings during the outdoor season in 2026. You can expect some new membership packages as we consolidate our locations.
We also have the ability to build additional courts nearby if the conditions warrant it, but our immediate priority is to have all of the new indoor facilities up and running asap. Because it took some time to get the engineering squared away and the survey work completed, our expected date of completion is around the end of September.
Between July 1 and the opening of the new facility, we will be using MLTC West as well as some of our partner locations to run a full schedule of late summer and early fall programming. Those locations are being finalized and will be announced within the next 30 days.
We are extremely excited to continue moving in a direction that will give us a new level of flexibility and will provide our members with a brand new facility.
More to come!

When we made our announcement about building a new facility in December, a number of details were left out because a few things needed to be confirmed. At the time, a few different properties were being engaged just in case there were any issues. This was a good maneuver since the one that was at the top of the list had complications and was going to be delayed for many months. As fate would have it, we actually ended up with an even BETTER location as a result. An agreement was reached with the owners of the property at 45 Nagog Park where the River of Life Church is located. The parcel has been subdivided and that will be our new home. The best part is that it is within about 500 yards of MLTC West!
At the 11th hour, we have decided to make some changes to the original plans in light of recent parking issues over at West. This fall we will be moving pickleball to the new facility and restoring court 1 at West back into a tennis court. The new site has plenty of parking and we have the ability to increase the number of pickleball courts beyond what we could do at West. To make everything fit, the current engineering drawings allow for 7 indoor tennis courts, four outdoor tennis courts, 6-8 pickleball courts and a small clubhouse. After a visit to both the Acton Building Department and Planning, things are looking good!
We can also tell you that the structure we will be using for the indoor courts is what’s called a “tension-fabric” building instead of a standard air-supported dome. Tension fabric utilizes an aluminum framework which has a number of advantages over a dome, especially when keeping it up year-round which is what we intend to do. One of the best parts is that the materials are kept in stock which means we can have it delivered within a matter of just a few months of ordering it versus 7 or 8 for a bubble.
We are solidifying timelines and will have another update by April 1st with more details on what our expectations are as far as completion.
And for those of you who guessed that we were moving to the location of “Bobby’s Ranch” (an iconic local horse-riding venue), you were very close!
